Everything you need to know about paying your demand notice to get a new electricity meter attached to your Mepco bill.
When you apply for a new electricity connection, receiving and paying your Demand Notice is the most crucial step before you receive your first official Mepco bill. But what exactly are you paying for, and why does the fee vary?
The journey from applying to getting your first Mepco bill follows a strict timeline managed by the ENC system. If you want to know what your final operational costs will be once the meter is running, check our complete 2026 MEPCO Tariff Rates Guide.
A common question users have when scrutinizing their initial Mepco bill setup costs is why demand notices differ between regions. Generally, urban connections require less extensive wiring because transformers and poles are densely packed. Rural connections often incur higher initial setup charges due to extended service lines, extra poles, or specific transformer upgrades required to safely bring electricity to remote farms or villages.
Never pay an agent in cash. The demand notice is exclusively payable at designated commercial banks. MEPCO will never add hidden "processing fees" directly to your regular Mepco bill for agent services. If you suspect fraud, use our Bill Complaint Guide to escalate the issue.
